The sanctuary situated in one of the many Kloofs (Gorges) of the Magaliesberg mountain range provides the perfect environment for Monkeys from around the world.

Besides the beautiful setting and educational experience the Sanctuary provides an insightful experience into the geological history of the area with a beautiful view of the Bushveld from atop its property.

The Magaliesberg is the oldest Sedimentary mountain range dating from 2.6 Billion years (Precambrian era). The range stretches from Bronkhorstspruit east of Pretoria (Gauteng) to Rustenburg (North West) ± 120Km.

The range slopes gently to the north with steep cliffs to the south (up thrust mountains). They rim the Western Bushveld Complex, a mineral rich Igneous deposit responsible for the up thrust nature of the Magaliesberg Mountain range..

Numerous Gorges within the range initially formed by faulting and later in filled by a secondary magma intrusion (Dykes) these Dykes weathered forming the Gorges seen along the length of the Magaliesberg range.

These Gorges host many different species of Flora and also ancient Iron Age sites. The range has also hosted many historical moments with a lengthy occupation by humans for the last 2 million years, with evidence of this seen at the Sterkfontein caves near Johannesburg  and west of the Hartbeespoort dam at the Bush Babies Primate Sanctuary and on the Lonmin Mining lease area.

      Primates
Several species of primates are accommodated at the Sanctuary all of which were once people’s pets. They however DO NOT make good pets once adult stages are reached and can become violent, destructive and uncontrollable.
